Why Colorado's Climate Demands More Than a Basic Car Wash

Colorado's climate is one of the most demanding on a vehicle's finish intense UV rays at high altitude, hail storms, road de icers and dramatic temperature swings can fade paint, degrade trim and strip waxes faster than almost anywhere else in the country. At Colorado Auto Spa our exterior detailing goes far beyond a standard car wash. We perform a thorough hand wash and dry followed by a decontamination of your paint using professional clay bar and iron removal treatments that reaches every panel, badge, grille and wheel well. Whether your protecting a daily driver from Colorado's harsh elements or preserving the flawless finish of an exotic we apply professional grade ceramic based sealants and ceramic coatings that create a durable shield against whatever the Front Range weather brings next. With over 30 years of experience, our team has the expertise to perfect every vehicle because here in Colorado, protection isn't optional, it's essential.

What is Paint Decontamination?

Paint decontamination is the process of removing embedded contaminants from your vehicle's paint and clear coat that regular washing cannot eliminate. Over time microscopic particles of iron fallout, brake dust, pollution, tar, tree sap and road grime work their way into and bond with your vehicles clear coat leaving the surface feeling rough, looking dull and preventing waxes, sealants, and ceramic coatings from bonding properly.

Professional paint decontamination at Colorado Auto Spa involves two key steps. First a chemical iron remover is applied to the paint which reacts with and dissolves metallic contamination embedded in the clear coat you can actually see it working as the product turns purple on contact with iron particles. This is followed by a clay bar treatment that physically lifts and removes any remaining tar, sap, industrial fallout and surface bonded contamination that the chemical step loosened. The result is a perfectly smooth genuinely clean surface that you can feel when you run your hand across the paint.

Paint decontamination is a critical step before any paint protection application including wax, sealant or ceramic coating because applying protection over contaminated paint seals those contaminants in rather than keeping them out. For Castle Rock and Denver Front Range drivers dealing with brake dust, road salt, and Colorado's variable weather conditions, regular paint decontamination is one of the most important steps in maintaining your vehicle's finish and long term value.

Exterior Auto Detailing FAQs - Answered By Colorado Auto Spa

  • How is an Exterior detail Different from a carwash?

Letting even the simplest exterior contamination sit on your car, truck, SUV, or RV can leave a distasteful, lasting impact on it. This is due to the chemical makeup of everything from tree sap and road salt to acid rain and oil from the highway. Having those contaminants removed professionally prevents surface degradation and provides lasting protection.

  • How often Should I Get My Car Detailed?

For most vehicles we recommend a professional exterior detail two to three times a year  typically before winter to protect your paint from mag chloride and road de icers and again in spring to remove the contamination that built up through the winter months. That said the right frequency really depends on how much you drive, where you drive and how your vehicle is stored. A daily commuter on Denver's highways picking up road grime and brake dust five days a week will benefit from more frequent attention than a weekend vehicle kept in a garage. Between full exterior details our mobile maintenance wash program keeps your paint clean and protected.

  • How Long Does it Take?

Our Exterior Detail typically takes 1.5-3 hpurd depending on the condition of your vehicle.

Our Gloss Enhancement service can take 3-5 hours.

Other services like 1 and 2 step paint corrections and ceramic coatings can take longer.
