Crystal Serum Ultra forms a dual layer ceramic coating that achieves a level of chemical resistance virtually no other coating on the market can match.  Crystal Serum Ultra protects across the full pH spectrum from pH1 all the way to pH14 meaning everything from the most aggressive acid based contamination to harsh alkaline chemicals simply cannot penetrate or degrade the coating. Bird droppings which contain highly corrosive uric acid that etches into unprotected paint within hours in Colorado's intense sun are repelled before they ever reach your clear coat. Even the light wash marring is significantly reduced because Crystal Serum Ultra's hardened surface is far more resistant to the micro abrasion that causes them.

Hand Wash

A proper hand wash is a lot more involved than most people realize. At Colorado Auto Spa we start with a pre wash that begins breaking down and loosening surface dirt, road film and grime before we ever physically touch the paint. This step alone removes the majority of loose contamination which is important because dragging dirt across paint with our wash mitts before it has been properly loosened is exactly how swirl marks and fine scratches happen. Once the pre wash has done its job we rinse the vehicle thoroughly and follow up with a careful hand wash using pH-neutral soap and a  soft microfiber wash mitt working panel by panel from the top down. Wheels and wheel wells get their own dedicated tools and products so that brake dust and heavy road grime never cross contaminate to paint. Everything gets a final rinse blown dry and touched up by hand with a microfiber drying towel to prevent water spots. It takes more time than running through an automated wash but the difference in how your paint looks and feels when we are done is immediately noticeable.

Tunnel Brush Wash

Tunnel car washes with rotating brushes might seem like a quick and easy solution but what is actually happening to your paint inside one of those machines is worth understanding before you run your vehicle through again. The brushes used in most tunnel washes are shared between every single vehicle that goes through that day which means the dirt, grit and road debris are  picked up from the car ahead of you are still sitting in those bristles when they make contact with your paint. That embedded grit gets dragged across your clear coat under pressure with every pass acting essentially like sandpaper on your paint surface. The result is a pattern of fine swirl marks and scratches that are not always obvious in normal lighting but show up clearly in direct sunlight or under a bright overhead lights and they compound with every wash. Over time a vehicle that goes through a brush tunnel wash regularly will develop a dull hazy finish. The only way to fix your paint at this point is a paint correction which involves compounding and  polishing the clear coat to remove the damage.

Touchless Wash

Touchless car washes are often marketed as the safer alternative to brushed tunnel washes and in a way they are there are no rotating bristles dragging contaminants across your paint. But the way a touchless wash actually cleans your vehicle comes with its own set of trade offs that most people are not aware of. Because there is no physical contact with the paint a touchless wash relies entirely on chemistry and water pressure to do the cleaning. The process typically uses two chemicals applied in sequence a strong alkaline solution first to break down organic contamination like road grime, bird droppings, and bug splatter followed by an acid based solution to tackle mineral deposits and remaining debris. The idea is that the chemical reaction between the two essentially shocks the dirt off the surface. The problem is that without anything physically wiping the paint a thin layer of road film and chemical residue almost always remains on the surface after the rinse. You can often see it as a slight haze or dullness once the vehicle dries especially on darker colored paint.  The repeated use of strong alkaline and acid based chemicals strips away wax and sealant protection faster than almost anything else, leaving your paint more vulnerable with every visit. So while a touchless wash is gentler on your clear coat than a brush wash, it is not exactly the clean you think you are getting.
